Ascend — Privacy Notice

Ascend is a private, invitation-only net-worth tracker run by an individual for a small group of friends and family. This notice explains what it collects, how it's stored, and who it's shared with. By creating an account you acknowledge this notice.

What we collect

• Account credentials — your email address and a password (stored only as a bcrypt hash, never in plain text).
• Financial data you choose to link — balances, account names, holdings, and institution names from the banks, brokerages, crypto wallets, and properties you connect.
• Identifiers you enter — public crypto wallet addresses and property addresses you add manually.

Ascend does not store your bank or brokerage login passwords — those are entered directly with our data providers (below), never with us.

Who we share it with

To fetch your balances, Ascend sends the necessary data to these third-party services, each governed by its own privacy policy:

• Plaid — connecting banks and 401(k)/retirement accounts. (Plaid privacy)
• SnapTrade — connecting brokerages. (SnapTrade privacy)
• RentCast — estimating real-estate values from the property address you enter.
• Public blockchain & price APIs — for crypto wallets, your public wallet address is sent to public block explorers and price feeds (e.g. Coinbase, Jupiter, GeckoTerminal, Blockscout, Hyperliquid) to read on-chain balances.
• Nasdaq — ticker symbols of your holdings are sent to look up earnings dates.
• Anthropic — powers Ascend's optional AI features. Depending on which you use, we send: the vehicle details you enter (vehicle-value estimator); a read-only summary of your own finances and your questions (AI copilot); a small durable profile of preferences/goals you share in chat (copilot memory — never your balances, which are read live each time); your monthly recap numbers (Wrapped narration); your net-worth metrics (proactive insights); and the ticker symbol you ask about (stock research, which also uses Anthropic's web search). The copilot is scoped to your own data only and provides information, not financial advice. An administrator can turn any or all AI features off for everyone. You can view or clear your copilot memory anytime under Settings.

We do not sell your data or share it for advertising.

How it's protected

• Each user's data is isolated — you can only ever see your own accounts and history.
• Sensitive linked-account credentials (Plaid access tokens, brokerage secrets, your authenticator secret) are encrypted at rest with AES-256, with the key held separately from the database.
• All traffic is served over HTTPS.

Administrator access

Ascend has a single administrator (the person who runs this instance and invited you). For account support the administrator can reset your password. As with any self-hosted service, this means the administrator has the technical ability to access the account and the financial data within it. Only join if you trust the person who invited you.

Keeping your data, and deleting it

Your data is kept for as long as your account exists. You can:

• Remove an individual linked account or connection at any time from the app.
• Clear your saved net-worth history from the app.
• Permanently delete your entire account — open the ⚙ (settings) menu and choose Delete account. This unlinks your banks and brokerages with our providers and erases all of your data. It cannot be undone.
